I really enjoyed my stay at Durag Niwas Guest House. Jodhpur is an interesting town and Durag Niwas is not far from the center of town...close enough to walk (or take a richshaw for a few cents). Most important, the host, Mr. Govind Rathore, made me feel very welcome, as did the extended family at Durag Niwas. Their little son Ayush is adorbale. Staying there was a real pleasure and I'd love to do it again for a longer time.

Mr. Rathore is a great resource for other travel, as well. He arranged a car and driver for a three day road trip, at a much better price than I had obtained through other channels, and the driver was excellent: polite, helpful and conscientious. And with the help of Govind's kind associate Virendra, they arranged for a much-reduced room rate at a luxury hotel at my next destination, saving a couple thousand RS from the quote I had received direct from the hotel. And that room was probably the best in the house.

Another plus: because it's not in the center of town, it's easier than in the typical small Indian town to get a good night's sleep -- even during Diwali! And it's a very safe-feeling neighborhood, too. Nobody bothered me on evening walks, as occurs in some Indian towns.

The only negatives encountered are all the 'ups and downs' of an old house, making it non-handicap accessible; and, smoking is fully allowed...which means some guests rudely light up while you're trying to eat your meal, or trying to relax and read in the courtyard.

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Rathore,

My parents had visited your guest house and returned back today morning. (Mr. Gulshan & Mrs. Kiran Narang)

They had a wonderful stay at your guest house and are very pleased with the hospitality shown by everyone especially Mukta and Bunty. They also found Ayush to be a very cute and friendly child.
All in all, they felt at home in Jodhpur and wish to thank you for everything.

Looking forward to visiting your guest house again.

Thanks a lot.

I feel so happy on this webside like an open window on the family we spent the longest and the beautifulest time in India, thanks to Mukta s incredible smile, Govinds unendless helpfullness, and Ayush who became my daughters unforgettable companion;
We got the most precious help as my daughter arrived sick, the most precious attention and generosity, we got the best indian cooking as well in the taste as in the heart and smile you could feel inside, and we all have in our heart how Tara and Ayush became the best companions even if both only 9 months old then.
I loved Durag Niwas which became my healing cokoon in Jodhpur, Setrawa who gave my daughter a new breath.
For ever, I wish love will always feed your universe to your innerst cells.

Traveling with a group of my school students in India for a month, we stayed here for one night. It was the best place that we stayed in over the whole time in the country and we were made to feel very welcome. The rooms were comfortable and clean but the real highlight was the food and cooking lessons. Highly recommended.

Govind:

I left your hotel and you were sleeping. I want you to know that I will be grateful to you all my life. When I arrive India, it was so difficult. Everybody wants money, nobody wants to talk. And you were the first person who really care about me.

Whatever you need, every time, just ask me. You have a new friend.

Nacho Damiano.

We have spent 4 unforgettable days at Durag Niwas Guesthouse in august 2008. Not only we really loved Jodhpur, but thanks to Govind and his whole family we did really feel "at home", also getting the chance to experience a bit of indian lifestyle, to taste delicious homecooked food and to see how Sambhali Project works in empowering Harijan girls. We are holding sweet and deep memories from Jodhpur, Sambhali and Durag Niwas GH in our hearts forever. Thank you again!

Namaste! I have just finished watching your photos and reading about your guest house. For me it is what makes India. And Rajasthan. Your place makes me feel as if I was there right now. And helps me to believe even more that in India it is all about family and human relations. Thank you for that! I hope that in July, while visiting Rajasthan, I will be able to go to Jodhpur and stay in your guest house. So... see you soon!
